Hillary Guarango
2025 Scholar
Hillary Guarango is a senior at Jose Marti STEM Academy. She envisions herself as a civil and environmental engineer. Since her freshman year, she has dedicated her time to doing environmental scientific research, and recently she had the opportunity to conduct research at Cornell University looking into the design of 3D printed concrete structural elements and how to reduce CO2 emissions through the American Chemical Society Program. Her research projects earned her the United States Environmental Protection Agency Award, the Association of Women Geoscientists, and the World Food Prize Borlaug Scholar. At the Javits Center in the New York Sun Works Conference, Hillary spoke to inspire many young people to be the change they wish to see in the world. She is the founder of Justice, Civic Engagement, and Urban Agriculture, as well as vice president of the Society of Women Engineers, and has held positions in the National Honor Society, the Mu Alpha Theta, and the Scientific Research Honor Society. Hillary actively participates in volunteer work at her local church and environmental programs. These activities have sparked a passion to advocate for projects seeking solutions to climate change and economic issues, as well as helping many people in need.
