Josephine Serrano

2025 Scholar

Josephine Serrano is a junior at Bergen County Academies' Academy for the Advancement of Science and Technology. She is currently working on independent research focusing on microplastic's effects on mitochondrial function and is the communications director for BCA’s collaborative STEM research project on synthetic biology. She hopes to continue her journey in STEM by studying Material Science and/or Biochemical Engineering in college. Josephine is active in her school community as president of the SPECTRUM club, an advocacy group for LGBTQ+ students, a member of the Black + Latino Student Union, an ambassador of the Women’s Empowerment Club and a varsity soccer player. Josephine has many creative interests including ceramics. For the past several years she has worked as an apprentice at a local pottery studio and as an instructor for teen and adult classes.
