Melanie Chauca

Melanie Chauca is a junior at North Bergen High School STEM Academy. She has conducted research in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as Columbia University and Princeton University. At the W.E.B. Dubois Scholars Institute, she utilized data and bioinformatics analysis on genes. At Columbia University's Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, she presented on the importance of genetic counseling and raised awareness for those at higher risk. Additionally, as an intern, Melanie investigated the link between childhood behavior traits and the early detection of learning disabilities. She also serves as the Treasurer of her school’s Key Club and is actively involved in the Environmental Club, Math Club, Ambassador of Kindness, and is a JV Tennis player. Passionate about her community, Melanie enjoys volunteering and helping others. She is determined to pursue a career in the medical field with the goal of giving back to her underserved Hispanic community.
