Michael W. Klein, J.D., Ph.D.

Michael W. Klein is a Richard P. Nathan Public Policy Fellow at the Rockefeller Institute of Government at the State University of New York, and an associated member of the faculty of the PhD in Higher Education Program at Rutgers University.
Michael served as the interim executive director of the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University (2018-2019), and he served for 19 years at the New Jersey Association of State Colleges and Universities, first as the director of government and legal affairs (1998-2011), and then as executive director (2012-2017).
Michael has held several positions in state government, including assistant counsel to New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
Michael has published articles on higher education policy, finance, and law. His articles have appeared in publications such as the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, the Journal of College and University Law, the Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy, the Journal of Law & Education, and the Journal of Education Finance.
Michael received a BA in history cum laude from Princeton University, a JD from Boston College Law School, and a PhD in Higher Education Administration from New York University.
